A nasty, blues-drenched guitar riff is at the heart of "Lipstick", an anthem to the excess and anonymity of New York City. The heroine stumbles from one conquest to the next while rightly asking "How can I get high, when you always bring me down?" A staccato drum rhythm heightens the slightly off-kilter energy of the band, while Robertson pushes her vocals to the edge, a hair's breadth away from fracturing.
